Instead of having a map rack full of paper and sepia maps of variable scale, uncertain
accuracy and one-dimensional function, SportsMapping can provide you with the digital
products that can allow you to connect with numerous applications. For your irrigation
mapping, we have the expertise and leading-edge technology to create and modernize your
irrigation as-built map.
Here's what we do:
Course features such as fairways, tees, greens, cart paths, buildings, trees, etc. are mapped
using our terrain-corrected, GPS-accurate digital aerial photography (an orthophoto). This
method of collecting course features identifiable on the aerial photo is more efficient,
accurate, complete in its coverage, and more cost-effective than “walking” each feature on
the ground using a GPS backpack.
Because they are too small to be seen on the aerial photo, surface irrigation features
such as sprinkler heads, valve boxes, quick couplers, satellite controllers and wire splice
boxes are “point-mapped” separately using GPS equipment.
The final digital map shows your GPS irrigation “as-built” precisely over-fitted onto your
georeferenced aerial photo course map.
If you have only a paper map of the irrigation system, SportsMapping can convert it into a
digital image using our high-resolution, 50-inch map scanner. The scanned image can then be
“rubber-sheeted” to overlay the aerial imagery, allowing accurate transfer of irrigation
information from the paper map to the digital map.
All the digital map data may be easily converted to fit the graphic formats used by our
GroundLinkx golf course maintenance GIS (Geographic Information System) as well as the graphics
formats of commercial computerized irrigation central control systems.
