Global Positioning System (GPS)
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-age navigational system conceived in the 1970's and originally developed and controlled by the United States Department of Defense.

GPS was initially intended for military use, but from the outset the United States Government realized that the system could also meet numerous, vital civilian needs.

The GPS system utilizes a network of 24 satellites in precisely controlled 11,000 - mile orbits. GPS receivers generate position by measuring delays in receipt of the precision timing signals. This satellite network operates 24 hours a day and in all weather conditions; and it is used worldwide for precise navigation on land, sea, and in the air.

SportsMapping uses high accuracy survey and mapping grade GPS with accuracies up to +/- 3 millimeters. We utilize GPS technologies to control our mapping and imagery projects. GPS is also beneficial for mapping features or components which are too small to be detected from aerial photography such as irrigation components.

The SportsMapping GPS has proven to be reliable and successful at numerous courses nationwide, in varying climates, terrains, and conditions.
